Apple has sent out a warning that calls for users to update their devices immediately in response to a serious security breach that has been found in specific devices that allows the attackers to take complete control of them.
In the report, Apple disclosed that serious security vulnerabilities were identified in certain iPhones, iPads and Macs and the company is urging users to update their devices as soon as possible to avoid being exploited by hackers.
The vulnerabilities were identified on Wednesday last week with Apple sending out a general notice about the issue though it wasn’t picked up by major publications at the time. According to the tech company, the vulnerability gives a hacker the ability to get “full admin access” to the device which would also allow them to impersonate the device’s owner and subsequently run any software in their name, said Rachel Tobac, CEO of SocialProof Security.
Security experts have advised users to update affected devices such as the iPhone6S and later models; several models of the iPad, including the 5th generation and later, all iPad Pro models and the iPad Air 2; and Mac computers running MacOS Monterey. The security flaw also affects some iPod models.
Apple did not specify how, where or by whom the vulnerabilities were discovered but has warned users about the breach hence the call for the immediate update of affected devices.
How to Update Your Apple Device
Security experts are warning that everyone with an iPhone should install the new update as soon as possible to protect all their personal information from possible hacks. Without the latest update, a hacker could take total control of your Apple devices.
In order to update your devices, you need to go to the Settings app, then head into the “General” section where you will find the “Software Update” option. The page you see will offer simple instructions on how to do an update but if your device has already updated, it will show a message stating so.
Undertaking the whole process typically takes a few minutes and also depends on your internet connection and speed. The better the connection, the faster the process will be.
Apple devices are set to automatic updates by default, but it can take some time before they get around to it. Updates also don’t usually trigger unless one manually checks to see if there’s one and also, it usually won’t happen unless the device more so the iPhone is plugged into a power outlet at the time. It’s quicker just to check for the latest updates and do it manually.
