Kamala Harris Becomes 1st Female Vice President-Elect of USA

Kamala Harris will become the first Female vice president of the United States of America after Joe Biden won the election against President Donald Trump.

To top it all off, Kamala is also going to become the first woman of color to become madam Vice President of America.

Her victory will be an inspiration to so many young girls around the country that they can achieve something great and even hold one of the highest offices in the nation. She too acknowledges the significance of her and Biden’s victory.

“Biden had the audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers … and select a woman as his vice president,” “But while I will be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last.” She said

Harris in her victory speech thanked the American people for embracing democracy and voting her and Biden into the office.

“Protecting our democracy takes struggle, it takes sacrifice,” she said, “but there is joy in it. There is progress because we the people have the power to build a better future.”

“You ushered in a new day for America,” she said. “Thank you for turning out in record numbers to make your voices heard,” she said. In addition to supporters, she thanked campaign staff and poll workers.

Who is Kamala Harris?

Kamala Devis Harris was born October 20, 1964, Oakland, California, U.S born to a black Jamaican father and Indian mother.

Her father, who was Jamaican, taught at Stanford University, and her mother, the daughter of an Indian diplomat, was a cancer researcher. Her younger sister, Maya, later became a public policy advocate.

Affter studying political science and economics (B.A., 1986) at Howard University, Kamala earned a law degree (1989) from Hastings College.

Between 1990 to 1998, Harris worked as the Deputy district attorney in Oakland earning a reputation for toughness as she prosecuted cases of gang violence, drug trafficking, and sexual abuse.

In 2010, she would then go on to become attorney general of California winning by a margin of less than 1 percent thus becoming the first female and the first African American to hold the post.

In 2016, Kamala Harris was elected to the Senate as a Democrat where she was representing the state of California. She was the first Indian American to serve as a U.S. senator as well as the second African American woman.

She is now the Vice President-elect of the United States of America and awaits to be sworn in to the office on the 20th of January 2021.
