Netflix Could Reap Big from Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction Movie

Netflix, one of the biggest giants in the streaming industry is bound to make a lot of money from its recent film called ‘Extraction’, which has Chris Hemsworth as the lead character.

Extraction may become Netflix’s most-watched feature film ever since its premiere on the streaming service with an estimated 90 million households expected to watch the movie.

In just four weeks, the movie has gained huge numbers of viewership, with it expected to grow even further. The success of the film could be a result of the current quarantine lockdown which has many people staying indoors during the coronavirus pandemic.

The ‘Thor’ actor on Saturday took to Instagram to celebrate the success of his film, thanking everyone for the tremendous support so far.

“We are absolutely blown away by the response this film has been getting! If you haven’t seen it yet, get on to @Netflix and check it out!” he wrote.

Extraction is an American action-thriller film directed by Sam Hargrave, making it his feature debut. It’s written by Joe Russo, based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman.

The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, Priyanshu Painyuli and David Harbour, and follows a black ops mercenary who must rescue an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

It also is expected to surpass the current record-holder which is Bird Box, a Sandra Bullock horror released last year. It should be noted that there was a recent change in Netflix’s viewing metrics whereby the streaming platform previously only counted a view of a film if an account watched 70% of a movie or TV episode but now a view is counted if an account watches at least two minutes of a movie or show.

The film was released on April 24, 2020, by Netflix and it received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances and action sequences but criticised both screenplay and excessive violence.

A sequel of the movie is currently in development according to reports by Digital Spy.
