Arguably Ugandan football’s fastest growing rivalry will be renewed today October the 2nd as Sports Club Villa the Jogoos host Vipers Sports Club the Venoms at Mandela National Stadium at 8pm in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) encounter.
Vipers have a superior head to head in the 28 meetings with Villa. Vipers have won 12 times, drawn 10 and SC Villa has won only 6 times with their recent outing at Mandela National Stadium ending in a 1-3 win to Vipers last season.
The Venoms will look at their inform forward Fahad Bayo who has found the back of the net 5 times in 4 games and Dan Sserunkuma to find the goals versus a rejuvenated SC Villa side which is on top of the log. Vipers boast of not having any fresh injuries in their squad.
The SC Villa camp has been boosted by the return of goal keeper Samson Kiirya from a longtime injury which had put him out of action for the whole of the 2018/19 season and teenager Gavin Kizito from international duty at the U20 CECAFA Championships. SC Villa will only be without the services of defender Moses Kiggundu due to accumulated cards, the rest of the team is in perfect shape to take on the Venoms today evening.
Will SC Villa tighten its grip on the 1st position or will Vipers continue its fine form and edge the Jogoos? All will be answered tonight as the Jogoos take on the the Venoms.
Villa and Vipers come into today’s game looking to distance themselves far away from defending champions Kampala City Council Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) who have been very busy in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League in the recent weeks. The Kasasiro boys will now be available to fully engage in local activity till the group stages of Confederations tournament begin.
