In the past the match between Manchester United and Arsenal always meant that fans were going to be served a very competitive game as these to giants fought for the EPL title but 14 years down the road, it has slowly turned into a battle for the top 4 finish or better yet, this season, it is battle for banter FC.
Arsenal who currently sit 4th on the table travel up north to Manchester to take on a toothless Manchester United at Old Trafford as two of the big guns in English football have been reduced to battling for scraps.
The hosts Manchester United are currently seated 9th on the English Premier League table while their rivals from London are seated 4th.
Ole Ganner Solskjaer’s Manchester United just can’t score goals while Unai Emery’s Arsenal just can’t be able to defend to save themselves.
Arsenal is currently the only team in Europe that has allowed their opponents to have most attempts at their goal with Watford recording 24 attempts while also holding the record for the highest number of defensive errors that have led to a goal.
Manchester United have managed to score 8 goals and have conceded 6 goals in the 6 games that they have played while their counterparts have scored 11 and conceded 10 goals. This is definitely going to be a cagey affair of the ones who can’t score and those who can’t defend.
When you critically look at those stats you get to understand that these two teams are not different from each other and that they may not necessarily treat the fans to an all-out entertaining affair.
During the press conference, Ole cast doubt on three players potentially not being able to feature in the Monday night game. The players are Pogba who has a swollen foot and Martial and Rashford who are yet to recover from their injuries.
Arsenal will welcome back Maitland Niles who picked up a red card against Aston Villa while Lacazette is still recovering together with Bellerin.
United could give young prospect Mason Greenwood an opportunity to run out against the Gunners while Arsenal could see Kieran Tierney make his English Premier League debut for the club at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer will have to come up with a defensive strategy to contain the evergreen Aubameyang while Emery will have to focus on the ever many errors his defensive keeps making.
This game could end in the draw though given how both teams have massive weaknesses that just keep on piling up. Emery has been wanting in his team selections in the past games and mostly those while away while for Solskjaer, he has been affected by injuries since the beginning of the season.
