The FUFA Big League (FBL) is Uganda’s second flight Association Football league. After the official confirmation and release of the 2019/20 season fixtures more than a week ago, the season will kick off today Thursday 17th 2019.
Unlike the past seasons, this one will be competed for by 18 teams divided into two groups Elgon and Rwenzori. The League will be played on 15 playgrounds from Kabale Municipal Ground to Baroka Ground Zombo. Bukedea were yet to confirm a home ground by the time the fixtures were released.
The Elgon Group comprises of Bukedea T.C, Dove All Stars, Kataka F.C, Katwe United, Kiboga Young(Mbale Heroes), Light SS, MYDA, Paidha Black Angels and Saviours F.C.
The Rwenzori Group on the other hand comprises of Dove F.C, Kabale Sharp, Kansai Plascon, Kitara F.C, Ndejje University, New Villa, Nyamityobora, UPDF F.C and Water F.C.
One of last season’s FBL exciting teams to watch were Kiboga Young which changed ownership prior to the beginning of this season and just like Wakiso Giants, in the previous season they were not allowed to change name to the one desired by the new owners. But on the other hand due to the advantage they have been allowed to switch home ground to CRO Sanisiro in Mbale from Kiboga.
Kiboga will start the campaign at home hosting newly promoted MYDA at CRO Sanisiro. Among other exciting match day one fixtures one should look forward to include Katwe v. Light S.S at Startimes Stadium and a face off between lat season’s UPL teams Ndejje University and Nyamityobora at Arena of Visions in Luweero.
The two teams which lead both groups earn direct promotion to the UPL for the 2020/21 season and the teams in 2nd and 3rd positions from both groups play a playoff and the winner joins the other two.
Best of luck to all teams taking part in the 2020/21 FBL season, may the best ones get promoted to UPL.
