Uganda Premier League defending champions Vipers Sports Club yesterday announced the signing of Alex Isabirye and their new coach replacing Bianchi Beneto who had served the Kitende-based side for only 58 days.
Vipers under Bianchi found themselves in unfamiliar territory when they failed to score a goal in over 650 minutes. To worsen matters, having come from a thunderous CAF Champions League qualifiers where they eliminated continental giants TP Mazembe of Congo, the Ugandan team finds themselves bottom of their group with the likes of Simba of Tanzania, Raja Casablanca of Morocco, and Horoya of Guinea.
It is believed that after the dismal performance in Tanzania against giants Simba, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa was left totally flabbergasted by the result and called for a meeting before issuing a dismissal for the Spanish-Brazilian coach Bianchi Beneto and his team.
Alex Isabirye who has done a fantastic job at BUL FC will take over the reins as the head coach at Vipers and though the details of his contract are yet to be known, he has already embarked on managing activities of the team as he was seen today leading the team in training sessions.

“Vipers SC have wrapped up the capture of experienced tactician Alex Isabirye from Uganda Premier League side BUL FC,” Vipers confirmed his appointment via the club’s website.
“The gaffer comes in as a direct replacement for the recently released Beto Bianchi Pellister, who parted ways with the club towards the end of last week,” added Vipers.
Isabirye said: ‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Vipers Sports Club, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to be here and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and developing a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.”
Who is Alex Isabirye?
Alex Isabirye is no stranger to many football fans in Uganda. Last season, he led Jinja-based BUL FC to Uganda Cup glory and his team participated in the qualifiers of the CAF Confederations Cup. However, the team was unable to qualify.
He has managed teams like Victoria University whom he led to Uganda Cup success, Kyetume FC, Soana FC, and Busoga United, and remarkably, he led the Taxpayers URA FC to the Uganda Premier League title in 2012. He has also managed stints outside of Uganda where he managed Somalia’s Horseed FC.
Alex Isabirye has vast experience in Uganda football and considering his heroics at Bul FC, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa and his partners at Kitende will be hoping that Alex will turn things around for the Venoms as the club is now 7 points behind rivals and league leaders KCCA FC who have played a game more.
