Is Marvel Getting a Female Thor?

Marvel is gearing up for an awesome year with lots of projects coming soon to our nearest cinema but, we are now getting reports that a female Thor could happen.

Marvel blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 are inches away from being released which will end Phase Three of the shared universe. Meanwhile no Phase Four projects have been announced yet.

However, fans are excited and are wondering whether new characters like female Thor could be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With plenty of Marvel’s actors having their contracts expire soon after the the next two Avengers movies, one wonders what is going to happen next and what they are planning for the future.

According to reports by Cinemablend.com, many fans are wondering if characters like Steve Rogers and Tony Stark could pass the mantle to new characters and this is what Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege said of the possibility:

We always look back to the comics to get those idea… sometimes very specific storylines like ‘Civil War,’ sometimes just nuggets or characters like ‘Planet Hulk.’ So anything that’s happened in the comics, even a female Thor, become great potentials and the ideas from which future movies can be born.

If his comments to Movies.com are to be believed, it looks like Kevin Feige hasn’t ruled out the possibility of introducing a female Thor to the MCU.

So, if actor Chris Hemsworth does not extend his contract with Marvel and calls it quits then never know, we could see the female Thor step in to fill the void left behind.

A female Thor in the MCU would also likely require actress Natalie Portman to the Thor franchise. Because in the comics, it turned out that the female Thor was none other than Jane Foster, who was also battling breast cancer. While weak and frail in human form, she could transform into the mighty Thor.

Jane Foster’s love story with Thor was a major plot point in the first two Thor movies, although Jane will be absent when Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters in a few weeks. So if Marvel plans on adapting the female Thor comic books, they may have to bring Portman back in.

Fingers crossed! We could or may not get the female Thor but, we definitely are rooting for it to happen anytime soon.

Ragnarok will start showing on November 2nd, 2017, and then again in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018.
