Special Editions of the 2024 Nissan GT-R (Godzilla) Debuts In Japan

As we gloriously cross into the new year, Nissan has big news for the Nismo fans as it unveiled new special editions of its classic Nissan GT-R, showing off some of its neat looks plus under-the-hood updates.

Nissan seems to have been planning this for while now,  and now the cat is out of the bag. The 2024 Nissan GT-R Premium T-Spec Nismo edition made its debut at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon for the Japanese market, bringing tweaks to the grille, updates to the suspension, and a couple of new special edition trims that keep the enduring platform front and centre.

Despite having a few tweaks, it could prove a little difficult to see what changes have been made to the T-Spec that make it any different from the previous models not until you look at the front and that’s when it hits you. Sporting a redesigned grille and fascia, it brings straighter lines and some symmetry to the GT-R’s face.

Aside from that, Nissan also said it has made improvements to the aerodynamics boosting the car’s performance. Updates and refinements have also been made to the platform underneath to offer the driver a more comfortable driving experience with reduced noise and vibration.

Roughly two years ago, Nissan released its 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo under the Nismo R35 generation, calling it the fastest model produced by the Japanese manufacturer. However, the Japanese car manufacturer has assured its fans that the 2024 special edition doesn’t lag behind its predecessors as it sports a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine that is as potent as ever, still generating 562 horsepower across the lineup save for the Nismo, which remains steady at 591 hp.

For those seeking a stand-out GT-R that isn’t quite as aggressive, Motor1 reports there’s the T-spec version. The second new trim for 2024 slots above the Premium and runs the 562-hp version of the twin-turbo 3.8-litre six-pot. From there, Nissan engineers give the T-spec its own special blend of suspension tuning for a balance between comfort and performance. It also receives a set of carbon disc brakes.

The updated 2024 GT-R will reach dealerships in Japan this spring. Nismo-tweaked versions will arrive in the summer. Last year, the GT-R was discontinued in Europe due to emissions regulations. It’s unknown if the changes will reach US shores.
