The 2019 African Netball Cup is scheduled to run between 18th and 22nd October, 2019 at the Velodrome in Cape Town City. Eight teams are expected to take part in the tournament, these include the hosts and favourites South Africa Proteas, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Lesotho.
Newly appointed Proteas Coaches Dorette Badenhorst (Head) and Dumisani Chauke (Assistant) have fielded a strong side captained by Bongiwe Msomi. The team is tasked with making sure the Trophy stays home.
The favourites also look at using this tournament to assemble to strong team which will play the England Roses in the November International Netball Federation Series.
The defending Champions, the Uganda She Cranes who won the championship two years ago when they hosted it in Kampala will also look to fade off tight competition from this year’s hosts, the Proteas and Malawi Queens who were strong opponents for the Ugandan team in this Year’s INF Netball World Cup.
Just like the Proteas, She Cranes have also appointed Rashid Mubiru the new coach and Robert Kisitu his assistant. The team will be without their captain, Peace Proscovia who won’t make it due a tight schedule in the Australian National Netball League.
Irene Mirembe will be the tournament team captain as Mary Nuba is tipped to fill up the Goal Shooter (GS) role.
