Last week, in Arua’s 5km Rotary Cancer Run, Shida Leni was able to grasp a decisive win in the women’s category despite the poor weather conditions. She was third overall in the race with two other male athletes taking the first and second positions.
Coaches Kevin and Sue O’Connor have trained Shida Leni for 11 years. The star athlete holds the National Records for 400m and 200m. She has also made substantial progress breaking the 400m National Record on 7 occasions, then in 2019 the 200m National Record, and winning the 400m Silver Medal at the World University Games in Italy, narrowly missing out on Gold. Until Shida broke them, these National Records had stood for over a decade.
Total Running
“We have coined the term “Total Running”. This means that an international runner should be willing to run over any distance from 100m to half marathon (21km). Thus Shida, who is a 400/200m runner, raced over 5km during the Rotary Cancer Run in Arua”, said her coaches.
Weight Training a Contributing Factor to Shida Leni’s Success
According to the coaching team, much of Shida’s success has been due to increased strength through weight training which has given her an edge over other athletes. “We are most grateful to Silver Springs Hotel for giving her complimentary use of its Espace gym and swimming pool”, said her coaching team.
Shida Leni has steadily grown her experience as an upcoming star athlete while under the management of the Kevin and Sue O’Connor coaching team, undergoing intensive training. She has continued to improve, and we anticipate that she will only get better and faster as she continues her training and keeps taking part in various competitions across the globe.
