Real Madrid contacted Antonio Conte on Monday as the Italian is their first choice to replace Julen Lopetegui should the Spaniard fail to turn his side’s fortunes around.
The club’s directors have held initial talks with Conte to see if the former Chelsea boss would be keen on taking over the reins at the Santiago Bernabeu
Corriere dello Sport an Italian paper indicate that Real Madrid boss Lopetegui has just three games to save his job after a topsy-turvy start to life with the Galaticos who have won 3 Champions Leagues in a row.
Real Madrid are currently fourth in the La Liga standings and not doing so well in the UEFA Champions league seems to be unsettling the chiefs at the Bernabeu and they want to make changes fast before they veer off completely.
They have lost three of their last four games with Sevilla, CSKA Moscow and Alaves all claiming wins over Real Madrid. These normally are games that Madrid can claim maximum points with the exception of Sevilla who have been giving them headaches.
The La Liga giants upset the Spanish FA by agreeing a deal with then-national team boss Lopetegui in the build up to the World Cup.
Lopetegui was sacked just two days before Spain’s opening game in Russia as he agreed a deal with Real Madrid without their permission.
With all this in mind, the Real Madrid hierarchy will be hoping that they can get a manager who will be able to get the best out of a very talented young team that they currently possess and put them back in fighting place.
The good thing for Real Madrid currently is that FC Barcelona are also suffering from a dry spell of form and the Los Blancos will be hoping that it continues as they sort out their house.
