Manchester United are planning on going after AC Milan forward Krzysztof Piatek as a replacement option for Rashford who is going to be sidelined till March.
With many injuries to his side, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has become increasingly desperate to sign a forward after the news that Marcus Rashford faces months out with a double stress fracture.
United were already short in the attacking area after they sold Romelu Lukaku and loaned Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan in the summer, while they also missed out on signing Erling Braut Haaland who joined Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United could be without Rashford till end of Season
However, speaking on The Athletic’s Ornstein and Chapman podcast, the former said he understands United have already contacted the Ac Milan on the availability of Piatek.
United are nevertheless expected to face stiff competition from Tottenham and Newcastle for the 24-year-old Poland international.
Tottenham, who are in search of their own replacement for the injured Harry Kane, have also shown concrete interest in Piatek this month but a refusal to meet his £30million valuation has seen the deal stall.
Manchester united have also been linked with a transfer move for Uruguayan international Edison Cavani. The Paris Saint Germain striker has not been happy at his current club.
And with Mauro Icardi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe forming such a formidable trio, it will be difficult to see Edison Cavani getting more regular play time at the club.
Cavani has already that been reported to have handed in a transfer request and it is believed that PSG is asking for £20M for the forward.
Whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward will get a couple of players in during the transfer window or not, remains to be seen but one thing is currently certain that United have a very thin squad and the forward options are even fewer with the club currently having to rely on Martial and teenager Mason Greenwood.
