Following the release of their single “Golden Hour,” Cleveland-based Molly O’Malley’s highly anticipated EP Nobody Parties (Like Molly) is finally here. Learned lessons about love — and loss of one’s self and those around them in an ever-changing world — are just a few themes in O’Malley’s cathartic project.
Speckled with guitar riffs over melodic pop tracks, O’Malley’s unique voice and thoughtful lyrics shine through, solidifying their spot in the dreamscape sound space. Self-described as “daydream punk for your long drive home,” Nobody Parties (Like Molly) is just that and more.
“Recording these songs was a blast. I was able to hang out with my friends Billy and Aaron in New York, and Jacob in Cleveland when we were recording, and there are few things that I enjoy more than playing music with my friends. Writing the song and watching it come to life with your friends is hands down one of the best parts about music.” – Molly O’Malley
Coupled with the EP release comes the Alex Zarek-directed music video for the punk-driven single “Diern.” With grunge-flavored vocals and blown-out fuzzy guitars, “Diern” is the universally relatable feeling of anger. The track calls out those who prey on the vulnerability of others and leave behind a reckless mess with no sense of responsibility for their actions.
Considered O’Malley’s favourite music video to film, the young recording artist made certain to capture such pent-up anger by including key thematic details such as playing with a snake, swinging baseball bats and brushing their hair with hammers.
“I think this is the first ‘diss’ track I’ve ever written. Felt really good to write. It’s about having a friendship with a narcissist, and all the ways they try to bring their friends down around them. A fun fact about this song is that it was written and recorded on one of Joe Trohman’s (of Fall Out Boy) guitars.” – Molly O’Malley
Louisville, Kentucky native Molly O’Malley (she/they) knows exactly the kind of artist they want to be. Inspired by artists such as Patrick Stump, Elton John, Tove Lo, Labi Siffre and MGMT, the multi-instrumentalist’s unique blend of 90’s alternative and sun-soaked dreamgaze brings her vulnerability to the forefront.
As a songwriter, Molly O’Malley is unafraid of being confessionally transparent against the backdrop of emotionally driven pop-centered melodies.
Molly O’Malley excited about her debut EP release
Molly O’Malley’s self-described “daydream punk for your long drive home” has earned them praise from notable outlets such as BrooklynVegan, Stereogum, SiriusXM and The Alternative, alongside opening slots for artists such as Shamir, Magdalena Bay, Wet, Oso Oso and Mannequin Pussy.
Their new EP, Nobody Parties (Like Molly), is a relatable collection of music that brings together thoughts, fears, dreams, and experiences in a beautiful catharsis; nestled with O’Malley’s signature velvety voice and hazy, indie-pop guitarwork. Molly O’Malley is excited to share this next chapter of her work and hopes listeners and fans refer to Nobody Parties as a place of comfort during hardships.
