Henry Cavill, who has been a crucial component of The Witcher Netflix series has agreed to be part of more seasons as long as the showrunners are willing to fulfil a certain condition.
The Witcher showrunners are hoping that the franchise could expand to at least another seven seasons, however, their main star Henry Cavill has certain conditions he would like to see put into action so as to win his commitment to the plan.
The first season of The Witcher was a massive success for Netflix and it’s already gearing up for another second season due this month. Last year, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich made it clear that she has enough ideas for the show to run another seven seasons.
According to reports, Cavill is willing to continue with the project as long as those in charge make one big promise which is to continue delivering high-quality programming while making sure that the stories stay true to the vision of the author of The Witcher books, Andrzej Sapkowski.
The condition doesn’t seem that difficult to meet since the showrunners have so far done a good job sticking to the original books that led to the popular game franchise, Witcher which has sold thousands of copies to date.
However, reports indicate that Cavill also had other ideas that he wished to be made to the second season which included his character Geralt being opened up a bit more in order to have more dialogue.
In a recent interview, Hissrich confirmed Cavill’s recent comments about portraying a more “intellectual” Geralt in the second season of The Witcher and credited him for helping flesh out the idea.
“A lot of the notes he was sending to me [after season one] were about Geralt’s dialogue—could he, first of all, say more,” Hissrich said. “Everybody came out of season one laughing and loving Geralt’s fuming. But Henry was saying that when you read the books you spend a lot of time in Geralt’s head. So how can we put that on the page? Meanwhile, I wanted to tell the story of him becoming a father figure to Ciri. So those two things coalesced wonderfully. He opens up to get Ciri to trust him, by speaking his mind and his heart more.”
Henry Cavill is willing to do 7 seasons of The Witcher
The first episode of season 2 will adapt “A Grain of Truth,” the third entry in “The Last Wish.” That particular story is geared to explore family dynamics and relationships between several characters in The Witcher universe. The plot has Geralt coming across an old manor owned by a cursed nobleman known as Nivellen. The season will also feature the Witcher taking Ciri back to her childhood home of Kaer Morhen.
It is not yet confirmed whether Netflix will be willing to play ball and allow Schmidt Hissrich and Cavill’s plans to be put into motion like the idea for seven or eight seasons of The Witcher. All we can say is that the series is definitely still going strong.
The Witcher has already been renewed for a third season and the popularity of the show likely means that it will keep going as long as those attached to it are willing to keep working on it.
The Witcher season 2 will debut on December 17 and will feature more characters (including Geralt’s pals Vesemir, Eskel, and Lambert) and a trip to the fabled fortress of Kaer Morhen.
