Big-time fans of popular video game ‘The Last Of Us’ are in for a treat as HBO has officially signed off on a live-action adaption that will soon be a TV series.
News about its development first came to light back in spring but now HBO has finally greenlighted a project that many fans have been dying to see come to life on the TV screen. Reports also indicate that the series will be headed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog game developer Neil Druckmann.
The Last of Us focuses on survivors Joel and Ellie as they navigate a post-apocalyptic America that’s been ravaged by a zombie pandemic. The video game itself became a popular hit when it first came out and now has a part 2 that was recently released for both PlayStation and Xbox, and has gathered lots of mixed reviews from critics and fans alike.
“Craig and Neil are visionaries in a league of their own,” HBO Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi said in a statement. “With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to resonate with both die-hard fans of ‘The Last of Us’ games and newcomers to this genre-defining saga. We’re delighted to partner with Naughty Dog, Word Games, Sony and PlayStation to adapt this epic, powerfully immersive story.”
While talks have centred solely on adapting the first game, its 2020 sequel The Last of Us: Part II was a critical and commercial hit, which should prove fertile ground for future seasons of the HBO zombie series.
The Last of Us story is expected to take place 20-years after modern civilization has been destroyed according to HBO
According to the official synopsis, the story will focus on Joel and Ellie just like in the games and will take a deeper dive in the heartbreaking journey.

The Last of Us will also be available to stream on HBO Max. We are beyond excited and can’t wait to see this masterpiece come to the TV screen.
