Hold up for a moment, did we get the news right? PlayStation Studios is going to publish its first-ever game to Xbox this year, and both companies are agreement. This is definitely worth considering as a first-time achievement.
According to reports from VGC, PlayStation will do something it’s never done before in 2021, by publishing a game on an Xbox console. For the fanboys who have held a long-standing grudge against each other over which console is the best can now put their beef aside for now.
Even though PlayStation has had some of its limited-time exclusives such as Death Stranding and Horizon Dawn being ported to other platforms such as PC from PS4 in 2o20, which some thought was nearly impossible to do. But having a Sony studio actually, port a game on Xbox and while having its logo on the cover is something else entirely.
The game in question that is coming to Xbox from the PlayStation Studio is MLB: The Show 21, a baseball game in a series that’s previously only been available for Sony systems, developed as it is by the SIE-owned San Diego Studio.
Since its first release in 2006, The Show games have been released only for PlayStation 2, PSP, PS3, the PlayStation Vita and PS4. But since it is coming to Xbox in 2021, and under a Sony-owned company, it is surely big news.
Reports of MLB: The Show coming to other platforms started way back from 2019, and no one thought it would happen as soon as it did this year. Box art for the Xbox One version of MLB: The Show 21, has a PlayStation logo slapped on it, something that still feels strange for many.
The move has been welcomed positively by so many, who celebrate it as a good precedent for bringing down the walls that have for so long divided the two platforms and fans respectively. With that said, we could soon see many other games come to the Xbox soon or a new generation cross-platform we never imagined before.
PlayStation Studios publishing a game to Xbox is a sign of good things to come ahead
Though, MLB: The Show has made its way to the Xbox, it doesn’t necessarily mean we will see titles like Gran Turismo, God of War or The Last of Us follow suit too. It is still a far stretch but we can envision it happening as long most of the money is going into Sony’s pockets.

“This is a very exciting moment for all of us as the storied franchise will be accessible to more gamers than before,” Ramone Russell, game designer and online community manager at San Diego Studio said.
“We would like to thank everyone at PlayStation, Xbox, Major League Baseball, Major League Baseball Players Association and the San Diego Studio for working diligently to bring MLB The Show to more users.”
It should be noted though, that Microsoft has games like Minecraft published on rival consoles, including the PlayStation. Therefore, its good to see both companies making strides to bring games and players closer than ever before.
MLB: The Show 21 will release on April 20 2021, cross-platform play included, for PlayStation 4 and PS5, and also Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and even Nintendo Switch, eventually, possibly.
