Teemu Pukki has been awarded the Premier League August Player of the Month award after hitting five goals in four games for Norwich on their return to the English Premier League.
The 29-year-old scored five goals in four games in the opening month which included a hat-trick against Newcastle. He has also assisted one goal to win the award, following up a stunning, 28-goal Championship-winning campaign last season.
Pukki beat Manchester City trio Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Burnley’s Ashley Barnes.
Pukki said: ‘It’s a big honour. It’s been a great start to the season so I’m really happy about it and we now need to start getting more points.
‘I believed in myself that I could score goals at this level but I never thought I would score five in the first four games. It’s much more than I thought I would get.
‘I couldn’t have won this award without my team-mates. They’ve been giving me lots of good assists and I really need to say a big thanks to all of those guys.
‘We’ve been playing good football against some difficult opponents so it’s not been the easiest start. We’ve been doing alright and we can be proud of how we’ve been playing.’
Pukki who finished the last campaign in teh championship as the golden boot winner will be booming with confidence that if he can continue to work relentlessly,, the he can be achieve similar feet as last season.
His goals have been a difference for Norwich City in the English Premier where newly promoted teams always find themselves suffering because they either can’t score goals or they don’t have players that can get the work done.
Norwich entertain Manchester City in their next game after the international break and the club will be happy to know that the player scored even while on international duty.
