Juventus managed to clinch their ninth successive Scudetto on matchday 36, which means on the final there will be no title to fight for but that will not make it less entertaining. The Bianconeri whose biggest focus now is on the return leg of the Champions League against Lyon to whom they trail 1-0 on aggregate, has even promised to field their U23 team to give the first team enough rest.
If not fielded, Cristiano will miss out on the last moment chance to try and cover the 4 goal gap between him and Ciro Immobile in the race for this season’s Capocannoniere. The visitors Roma will look out to end the season in style with a win against Juve’s U23s at the Allianz Stadium.
Coppa Italia Champions Napoli will be hosting Lazio at the Stadio San Paulo, a game of interest for Ciro Immobile. At 35 goals, Immobile will be looking at sealing his third career Capocannoniere in style. He needs to find the net once or twice in this game to equal or passes Calcio’s Most Goals In A Season record, 36, held by Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli) in 2015/16 and Gino Rossetti (Torino) in 1928/29.
A win for fourth place Lazio (78 points) coupled with a draw from the Atalanta Inter game means the side from the capital finish second. The hosts, on the other hand, have nothing more than signing out with honour to look out from this game.
In the biggest game of Saturday night, Atalanta will host Inter in a game which will be played to find out whether the Nerazzurri of Bergamo or the Nerazzurri of Milano will finish in second (for clarity Nerazzurri is Italiano to mean Black and Blue so it is not limited to only Inter but can be used to all Calcio teams which wear blue and black as their primary kits). Inter currently sit second with a point above the Bergamese on 79 points.
The Serie A is coming to a climax with a few crucial matches still left to play
Atalanta also comes into this game with 98 goals scored this season. If at all they manage to score two or more goals, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will be the first team in 69 years to score 100 or more Serie A goals. It will a great way to end the season if they manage to achieve this great statistic.
In other Saturday evening games, the season’s biggest flops, Serie A’s 20th side on the league and confirmed 2020/21 Serie B participants will pay a courtesy visit to Sampdoria in the matchday’s earliest fixture.
Having survived an early relegation scare, Sampdoria will finish 14th if they manage to win and Udinese slips. The After Lockdown top scorers Milan will host Cagliari at the San Siro. Stefano Pioli’s men are expected to continue their goal-scoring rampage.
Unlike in other leagues where the final matchday was played on one day, in the Serie A, it is going to be played over two days. The relegation battle will be played on Sunday.
17th placed Genoa will be involved in another last day relegation dilemma as they host Verona in a must-win game to secure the spot in next season’s Serie A by themselves. Genoa will look to overturn their previous form of 2 losses and also look above their earlier 3-1 loss when they visited Verona.
Lecce which is a point below Genoa still has a chance of survival if they manage to overcome their hosts Parma, and also hope Genoa does not collect anything more than a point in their game. Lecce will look to ponder on their midweek win against Udinese to keep their survival hopes up.
In the Sunday fixture, relegated SPAL host Fiorentina, Bologna host Torino and Udinese visit Sassuolo.
