Ahead of the new league that is slated to start on Friday night between two of the most successful teams in Ugandan Rugby, Nile Special’s new product Nile Special Stout will be the sponsor.
After unveiling their new product Nile Special Stout, the company has chosen to front their new product as the official Uganda Rugby League sponsors with a heavy sponsorship package of 670 Uganda Million Shillings.
While talking at the launch of the new rugby season and new unveiling of the new sponsor, Francis Nyende, Brand Manager for Nile Special had this to say, “Rugby is much more than a game. It’s a lifestyle, a livelihood for some, an entertainment for many and a proud flag bearer of our country.”
“As a bold, dark and satisfying liquid, we share certain intrinsic values with rugby players and fans and as the first and only stout crafted in Uganda, Nile Special Stout is proud to partner with such a great property that consistently flies our flag high and proud.” he added.

The UGX 670 Million sponsorship package will cover league title sponsorship, club support, prize money, special categories prize money among others. UGX 100M will go directly to clubs, UGX 40.5M (an increment from last season’s UGX 22M) will cater for prize money & UGX 8M (a 100% increase from last season) will facilitate the special categories prize money.
The sponsorship packages are believed to be geared so much to growing the sport in the country and attract more fans over the next year.
While speaking to the press Kobs‘ talisman Joseph Aredo said that they hope to replicate and even better the performance that they had against Heathens during the Uganda Cup finals that were played at the Kings Park down in Bweyogerere earlier on in the month.
Aredo went on to say that they have fitter and faster players as compared to those of Heathens as the two clubs get ready for what promises to be a mouth watering encounter between the two big giants in Uganda rugby.
Heathen’s captain Michael Wokorach says that they have a stronger park as compared to that of Kobs and they also have an added advantage of experience.
For the Heathens, a win tomorrow will be an act of revenge for having lost to Kobs last season at home but also the loss in the finals of the Uganda Cup.
Heathens have won the league a record 16 times while Kobs have won it 14 times. Kobs are looking at closing the gap on their arch rivals seeing as the last time they won the league was in 2016.
Both teams will be very wary of the Pirates who have since become such a formidable side in Uganda rugby league and should be in title conversations this season as well.
Last season, Pirates decided the destination of Uganda Rugby league title after they defeated the Kobs at Legends in a highly contested affair.
