When Mukwala Steven joined Maroons FC on loan from Vipers SC, many people didn’t have hopes that he would succeed. He had also struggled to find playing time at his parent club at the Kitende based side and break into the first team.
While speaking to one of our writers via Instagram live on Saturday, Mukwala said, “when I joined Maroons FC, I knew this was a perfect opportunity for me to revitalise my career”. Indeed, his loan spell at the Luzira based side has proved wrong.
His incredible performances saw Mukwala named the Golden Boot winner of the year for 2019/2020 season scoring 13 goals, beating Fahad Bayo of Vipers SC.
Despite his loan club having many challenges this season, Mukwala kept his head in the game and stayed focused. “It was not easy for me to keep scoring goals when my team was struggling, but I kept working hard because I had set my targets for the season”.
“I also want to thank head coach Bamweyana since he was with us for the bigger part of the season, he believed in me and that pushed me to even work harder” he narrated.
Mukwala Steven has had some hard times in his career but has kept his head up high
Speaking about his footballing future plans, Mukwala was reluctant to reveal anything but he said, “I haven’t decided if I will go back to Vipers or look for another team”
“For now I have to keep working hard, keep myself fit since there’s no football going on and see what happens next”.
Mukwala Steven lighting up the Star Times Uganda Premier League 2019/2020 season, will definitely earn him more caps for the Uganda Cranes under head coach Jonathan Mckinstry.
With CHAN and other international engagements still on a halt due to the Covid-19, the 20-year-old has plenty of time to prepare for his future. As a professional footballer, Steven has maintained a good run throughout the season and hopes to build on that momentum come the next one.
