For long the African Universities have come together to compete in games ranging from athletics to football, swimming among many others and this year from 16th-22nd Aug, all games will be played at Kenyatta University in Nairobi Kenya.
This will be the third time for Kenya to host these games having hosted the second & seventh editions in 1978 & 2014 respectively, both at the University of Nairobi.
The All Africa University Games event, commonly known as the FASU Games, is a multi-sport university sports event organized every even year, and attracts crème de la crème athletes from various universities all over the African continent.
In conjunction with the host university, the event is organized by the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), an affiliate to the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and a member of the Association of African Sports Confederation.
Over 4000 participants are expected to represent their respective universities in the five-day competition program consisting of 15 sports disciplines.
These include Athletics, Chess, Swimming, Taekwondo, 3×3 Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Woodball, Billiard and Snooker, Karate, Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Rugby 7s, Netball.
There will be other three extra games (Rollball, Snooker and Woodball) that shall be played for demonstration purposes.
Speaking at the launch of the preparations for hosting the 10th All Africa University Games 2020, the Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University, Prof. Paul K. Wainaina thanked FASU for entrusting the University with the games and urged the Local Organising Committe (LOC) to deliver the games at a standard that reflects Kenyatta University’s track record of excellence.

He also expressed his confidence that Kenyatta University teams shall put up a great display, based on their past performance record in the region.
The FASU Games usually come with great opportunities for participants that excel in the various sports disciplines, and more of these are expected of the 10th Edition.
“The opportunities that await participants include qualifying to represent Africa in the paid World Universities’ Leagues for 3×3 Basketball 2020 and Soccer 2021, and the lasting legacy the games bestow on the host university and country.” Ms. Peninnah Kabenge Aligawesa, FASU Secretary General.
Amidst commissioning the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prof. Wainana not only unveiled the Games logo but also the online registration portal.
