Fiorentina is plotting a move for Manchester United flop Fred before the Serie A transfer window closes on September 2, according to La Nazione.

Fiorentina who kicked off their Series A campaign with a very entertaining loss to rivals Napoli are looking at how they can strengthen their squad to compete this season.

Having already signed Frank Ribery and Boateng, Fiorentina are hoping that adding strength into the deep end of the midfield will give the defence protection.

The Italian media outlet claims the Red Devils are willing to let the midfielder leave for 30million euros, almost half of the £52m paid to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer.

The report suggests Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has made the Brazilian his priority and the Serie A club have entered negotiations with United.

Fred has produced one goal and one assist in 25 appearances for United, making just 13 Premier League starts.

The 26-year-old is yet to feature for the Red Devils this season and is yet to be included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s matchday squad.

Fiorentina got off to a disappointing start in their first league game of the season, losing 4-3 against Napoli at Artemio Franchi Stadium.

A lot of attacks were coming through the mid of the park and Fred who plays deep in the central defence could just be the solution that the side is looking for to release Boateng and the rest to focus on attack.

After finding himself falling down the pecking order to McTominay, Brazil will hope that this deal will be done as fast as possible so that he can try to resuscitate his career.

United could lose up to half of what the bought the Brazilian for when they were signing him from Sparta but this is something that the Red Devils feel they need to do.
