Airtel Uganda recently launched its own Live TV and Video-on-Demand (VOD) service called Airtel TV. The new streaming platform is offering a mix of local and international content sourced from some of the largest studios across the globe. The new service is part of Airtel’s initiative of digitising Africa.
News about the platform came to light during the launch at Ndere Center in Ntinda, where MD VG Somasekhar said that Airtel TV will be the one-stop-shop for all its customer’s entertainment having all the live TV, movies, music, and other content for free.
The launch of Airtel TV comes a few days after MTN launched its partnership with YoTV Channels to avail affordable data bundles for streaming local content.
Is Airtel TV the right choice for you?
For starters, Airtel TV is only available to Airtel Uganda subscribers and will offer unlimited access to the best video-on-demand content from around the world. In order to get access to the service, you need a registered Airtel SIM, a data-enabled device and an Airtel data bundle.
According to Airtel Uganda, the service is designed to add value to the high-quality streaming while promoting local content and talent in a convenient and easy to access package free of charge only requiring the users to have an active data bundle.

Users can watch movies from Ugawood, Nollywood, and Bollywood among others. It also has all Ugandan based TV stations and others from across the globe such as Bloomberg, Gametoon, Fashion Box, Nautical, God TV, Inspiration TV, and Al Jazeera, among others.
In order to use the service, one has to first download the Airtel TV App from Play store for Android or iOS for iPhone and then follow the instructions so as to register on the platform which is easy.
The biggest let down about the service is location restriction. Some of the content is not available for Uganda which may be due to copyright issues especially that from America and other countries. There is also still a lot of content lacking and hopefully, it continues to grow as time goes by.
Airtel TV is a bold step for the network and with that said, the service provides a variety of TV stations including music content, which is a good thing for those that love television. We hope it evolves to become as good as other streaming services such as Netflix and Disney Plus.
