Christopher Landon Describes DROP as a “Modern Hitchcock Movie”

Best known for reinventing the horror-comedy space and expanding the Paranormal Activity universe, director Christopher Landon returns with Drop—a sleek psychological thriller starring Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, currently #1 on the JustWatch Streaming Charts) and Brandon Sklenar (1923) , that brings a fresh edge to the genre.

Landon, who previously helmed Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and contributed to multiple films in the franchise, continues to demonstrate his skill for turning genre conventions on their head. Drop premiered last weekend and is currently being shown in theaters across the U.S.

Why to watch: Christopher Landon on the Inspiration Behind Drop

Christopher Landon, Director of DROP had this to say about his masterpiece:

“What I hope is that it gives people pause in terms of how they communicate with strangers. Often because people can hide behind technological anonymity, they feel like they have some kind of permission to, in some cases, be really abusive—and that’s not okay. So I’m kind of hoping that’s a conversation people have.

I’m a giant Hitchcock fan, I always have been, and I thought that this felt like a modern Hitchcock movie. I also really wanted to try and bring back the ‘90s thriller, which I think has been really absent from cinema.”

About Drop

Drop is a sharp, stylish thriller that begins with a seemingly innocent date—and spirals into something much darker. A modern story of trust, perception, and danger in the digital age, the film channels the tension of classic thrillers while reflecting today’s hyper-connected world. Landon blends suspense with social commentary, reviving the ‘90s psychological thriller with a distinctly current twist.
