The Annual B-Global Uganda Hip Hop Summit Returns for Its 18th Edition

This year isn’t ending without the famous Uganda Hip Hop summit as it returns for its 18th annual run that will be a virtual experience for all Hip Hop fans to enjoy right from their homes.

2020 has a been a tough year for many event organisers that have been forced think of new ways to keep fans engaged, and the same can be said for the Bavubuka Foundation for its 18th Annual B-Global Uganda Hip Hop Summit which will be aired live as a virtual event.

The tribe at Bavubuka Nation will be presenting Uganda’s longest running Hip Hop cultural event through a live stream from the B-Global Indigenous Hip Hop Gathering platform and will be streamed through the Bavubuka Nation YouTube channel.

This year, the summit’s theme is ‘Celebrating The Transformative Power of Hip Hop culture through the lens of the motherland’.

The summit is expected to attract both local and global fans and aims to bring about connection through participation as it celebrates 18 years of building and empowering Hip Hop culture in Uganda.

For nearly two decades now, the Annual B-Global Uganda Hip Hop Summit has always aimed at engaging youth by enabling them to discover their vocal talents through liberating educational programs that awaken their ancestral roots and culture.

“We want to see the youth reclaim their culture and also honour their ancestral assignments through their gifts,” says Bwette Gilbert Daniel, a member of the International Hip Hop Research Committee (Hip Hop Education Centre – New York).

He adds: “We want to thank each individual, community, institution, media and company that has stood with us throughout all our challenges. We believe your knowledge and wisdom have continued to greatly impact our present and future efforts of ensuring that all our relatives globally can meet to participate in reimagining the future we envision together.”

What you need to know about the long celebrated hip hop summit

The B-Global Indigenous Hip Hop Gatherings are educational platforms which are designed to strengthen, encourage and celebrate the journey of the indigenous hip hop voice in Uganda. The main focus of the event is to awaken the spirit of the youth voice.

It provides the space and resources for youth to gather together, learn from one another, grow with one another, and draw on the power of their roots and culture. It also provides continuous positive inspiration for young men and women who use the platform to lead and build their communities.

The Bavubuka Foundation and The Uganda Hip Hop Foundation, recognize the power of Hip Hop music and culture as a catalyst for positive social change. Hip-Hop is the contemporary youth’s cultural foundation and symbolizes the ability of people living in marginalized communities to flourish and live their dreams.

Their vision is to create peacebuilding platforms which empower and unify young people from diverse communities hence amplifying and creating a powerful awakening of the youth voice in Uganda.

Artists expected at the summit?

The 18th Annual B-Global Uganda Hip Hop Summit will be streaming live this weekend 26 December 2020 and have top artists and members of the hip hop community from Uganda and other global representatives. From the global side, the summit will have the likes of The Reminders (USA), P Thandi Hicks Harper (USA), Javier Starks (USA), and Msia Clark (USA), Apex Zero (Britain), Greg Schick (USA), plus Wanlov (Jamaica) joining the live stream.

The summit will also have top hip hop representatives from other African countries like Nanya (Nigeria), Synik (Zimbabwe), Fid Q (Tanzania), and Xhalida (South Africa). Meanwhile, the summit will be graced with Ugandan talent from the likes of  Navio, MC Flower, Jackson Mvunganyi,  Antonio Bukhar,  Abdanger, Kween G, Heatwave (Canada/Uganda), Fartisharts, Fuse Cypher,  Lyrical G, Mark Gordon, MC Spyda, Ricky Kawesa, Shadrack Kuteesa, Mr Sliverback, Nada, Ruyonga, Kagayi, Ram MC, Corp Zak, and lastly MC Flower.

The summit, which is sponsored by Bavubuka Foundation, Bavubuka Nation, Words Beats & Life INC, FUSE, UG HipHop Archivist, and Silverback DJz will be streamed live via the Bavubuka Allstarz Foundation Facebook page & Bavubuka Nation Youtube channel respectively at 8:00 PM EAT.
