Egypt has been named as the host for Africa’s premier football competition, the Africa Cup of Nations that will take place in June 2019.
Egypt beat South Africa by 16 votes to 1 vote at a CAF Executive Committee vote that took place in Senegal .
Cameroon was the supposed to be the original host nation for AFCON 2019 but was stripped of the hosting duties by CAF in November last year after citing slow preparations.
For the first time, AFCON will played in June contrary to January as it has been in the past years and this will be the first edition of the newly expanded 24 teams format.
It will be the fifth time Egypt, which won the tournament when it last hosted in 2006, has staged the tournament.
