Tate Logan and Zachary Ross Team Up to Deliver Pop Punk “Jessie’s Girl”

Los Angeles local is riding high from his latest bold extended play release, ‘Double Feature which was released on all streaming platforms on July 1st. While nostalgia is high Tate Logan is teaming up with Zachary Ross (Man Overboard, Zachary Ross, and The Divine) to give us the Pop Punk 80’s cover we didn’t know we needed.

Now available on all streaming platforms via Secret Friends Music Group, a colourful rendition of the great Rick Springfield’s classic, “Jessie’s Girl” produced by Jonathan Dolese. Alongside this cover is a playful video featuring punk Barbies to go with it – check it out here. On the track, Tate Logan explains:

“’Jessie’s Girl’ was incredibly fun to recreate. Zachary Ross has always been a huge inspiration to me. Man Overboard was, and still is, one of my favourite bands of all time. In a time when pop-punk is exploding again in the mainstream, I felt that Zachary was the perfect guy to ‘defend pop punk’ with me. We chose Jessie’s Girl because it’s super fun, super catchy, and a song almost everyone is familiar with and loves. It was a blast reconstructing it as a pop-punk banger and giving it a new life in the emo world”Tate Logan

This rendition of “Jessie’s Girl” carries a meaningful undertow, 50% of the streaming and download proceeds will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center, servicing throughout the region for trans wellness, health and social services, and housing and educational services, and much more.

The cover shines a light on both artists’ recent projects, releasing EPs respectively through Secret Friends Music Group (Tate Logan) and Smartpunk Records (Zachary Ross and the Divine) this summer. Their cover of the beloved song displays that classic Pop Punk sound they have honed throughout their career.

Featuring upbeat punchy guitar and hard-edged melodic vocals, this cover gives Pop Goes Punk vibes! Zachary Ross elaborates on the track:

“I have always loved this song. Tate has a very contagious energy about him. I had a blast. I am always down to throw back on a classic cover as long as it’s good and I think we did it well.”Zachary Ross

Tate Logan’s influences range from 90s surf rock, 00s pop-punk, modern hyper pop, and singer/songwriter deep-cuts, a limitless resource of musical taste.  Tate is a dedicated activist in the LGBTQIA+ community creating an inclusive and supportive space for all of his fans and encouraging them to be exactly who they are.

This inspired Tate to embark on a solo career to fully embrace his identity as a transman in the alternative scene and dedicate his passion for music to those who need representation in those spaces. Fashion, art, and music are all deeply intertwined in Tate’s world.

Inspirations from the glamour rock of Mötley Crüe to the dirty edge of Britpop, to the fearless provocation of Lady Gaga, there is always a dedication to leather, chains, and cheetah print in Tate’s wardrobe.  Tate Logan spent the first years out of school fronting the band “Happy.” and released multiple records both produced by Will Pugh (Cartel) and Marc McClusky.  Happy. also toured North America with Super Whatevr (Hopeless), Chapel (Rise), and more.

You may recall Zachary Ross from one of the most pivotal pop-punk bands of the 2010s – Man Overboard. His musical talents landed him on the main stage of the Vans Warped Tour, on the top 20 Billboard rock charts, and on worldwide tours with sold-out crowds on multiple continents.

When the band ended, Zac tended to his family life and struggled with mental illness of his own. After a few years under the radar, he felt it was time to make new music under his own name in the summer of 2021. His agent Matt Pike encouraged him to take the plunge by reminding him that if he puts excellent music out, the world will probably listen, or at least some people.

With that fire lit, Zac headed to Hollywood to make a record and a new band of his own. The familiar and beloved characteristics of Zac’s previous musical endeavours are present and seamlessly blend with his new perspective and approach as a solo artist. His first EP under the moniker is set to release on August 19, 2022, via Smartpunk Records.
