Kevin Whitaker Releases Single About Finding “Unpredictable Love”
Kevin Whitaker is a Pennsylvania-based singer/songwriter with an 80s pop twist and vibe in his music. Inspired by the euro-pop moment, Whitaker’s vocals are known for bringing depth, darkness, and emotion to life with every song.
Having grown up in a lifestyle that inhibited him from expressing himself, Whitaker never gave up and his love for music was able to blossom within. He was able to dissociate and follow his music dreams later releasing his first debut “Part Of Me,” via Radium Records in late 2021.
Unpredictable Love will be his second single ever released and we see a bright future ahead for him given his unique 80s vibe and vocals.
Our team reached out to Kevin Whitaker for an interview to find out what he is up to and what plans he has in store for his growing fan base.
1. Listening to your newest track “Unpredictable Love”, what drove you towards that project? Is there a story behind it?
Well with every song, you know there is always something that leads you to the writing like a life experience or a current situation. This song is about waiting on someone I’m currently with relationship-wise. For months we were talking but nothing was moving forward and really it was no one’s fault. It was just bad timing and feeling things out.
The conversations and the vibe just felt like it could be love in the future which really felt unpredictable. Like how can you just meet someone and fully connect like that? Well, that feeling of unpredictable love or what could be was the feeling I was getting needless to say we are finally together now and things are rolling along. Love can find us in such odd times.
2. Given your unique vocal talent, do you often meet people that are surprised by how you sound? And why the 80s style and vibe in your work?
Yes to be honest I’m a drummer always have been but like every story of the drummer leaving the kit and becoming the frontman, this was the case here. So everyone that knows me is like What??? You can sing, truth be told I’m still harnessing in on my vocal sound.
And why the 80s style and vibe in your work? I love it… you know the big sounds of the euro-pop movement, a lot of great hits came from the 80s and I just wanted to be different and bring something else to the table. I wanted those catchy unique vibes but more modern.
3. Unpredictable Love really caught us by surprise. Is that the direction you’re hoping for in your upcoming work or debut album?
You know I’m not sure, I wanted to see what people thought and if I can really use this sound to grow. Being different in my writing and vocals can be a challenge but I’m so proud of this piece that Radium Records and I put together. I do see more of this coming down the pipeline for sure.
4. Seeing how the pandemic affected the entertainment industry, what are your thoughts on the current music scene? Do you see it as a new frontier for artists from various backgrounds to rise and shine?
Yes, for sure there is so much talent in this world, I mean just watch Tik Tok it’s really insane with the quality of talent that’s out there. But you know what I’m going to continue to do me and just grow and give this world a new scene of music and see where it goes.
5. What is your creative process like?
I like to experiment with just sounds and synths and try to get my hook down that was the case with unpredictable love, it started with the chorus.
6. Aside from creating music, what do you usually do for fun in your free time?
I love hockey! Love to play and watch it, on top of that being with friends and enjoying our weekends together is such a fun time. Being with my girls, I raise two beautiful girls who keep me on my toes. Family is great, I lost a lot of people over the years due to growth so I cherish who I have in my life now.
7. What are your favourite bands or music artists? And who do you wish to collaborate with in the future?
I’m a huge Dave Mathews band fan as well as the beach boys I love them. These artists inspired me in just music itself the love the passion. I would love to work with Eminem, to be honest man I really think we would do something off the wall with my voice and his writing ability.
8. What message would you love to give to your fans?
Love Love Love, you know I’m 36 now chasing a passion I had my whole life. This isn’t easy this is such a huge challenge in so many ways and sad to say there are so many that don’t want me to win. But on the other side, there are so many more that do. Love yourself, love your neighbour, and stop judging the world. And most important keep the people that speak positivity in your life closest. Shut out the negative and grow and be what you want to be.
