Whether you’re the lash tech performing the lash lift or the client receiving it, an uneven result can be frustrating for both parties. No one wants to deal with lashes that curl in different directions or appear to have a “stair-step” effect. So, what exactly causes a lash lift to turn out uneven?
Inexperience
One of the most common causes of an uneven lash lift is also the simplest: a lack of experience. Just like any other beauty service, it takes time and practice to perfect the technique of a lash lift. If a client receives a lash lift from someone new to performing them, there’s a chance the tech may not have mastered the process yet.
Lack of Isolation
Lash techs need to isolate lashes during lash services like lifts. This process involves separating each lash with a tool to ensure the lashes don’t stick together during the lifting process. If the tech doesn’t isolate properly, some lashes may end up with more lift than others, which can lead to an uneven result.
Different Lash Thickness/Length
Another factor that can cause a lash lift to turn out uneven is the thickness and length of the client’s natural lashes. If the client has thicker or longer lashes, they may require more or less lifting solution than someone with thinner or shorter lashes. If the tech doesn’t adjust for these differences, it can result in an uneven appearance.
Poor Timing
If a tech leaves the lifting solution on for too long or not long enough, it can also lead to an uneven result. The recommended timing for a lash lift varies depending on the brand and type of lifting solution used. If the tech doesn’t follow the instructions correctly, it can cause some lashes to be over-lifted or underlifted.
Poor Quality Products
Using poor-quality products can also contribute to an uneven lash lift. Lifting solutions and other products used during the process may not be strong enough or may not work well together, resulting in an inconsistent lift.
Natural Lash Damage
Lastly, if the client has damaged or weak natural lashes, these issues can affect the outcome of a lash lift. Lashes that are already weak due to previous extensions or other treatments may not hold the curl as well and can contribute to an uneven final appearance.
As you can see, several factors can contribute to an uneven lash lift! The best way to prevent this is for clients and their lash techs to communicate openly and for the tech to have experience when it comes to performing lash lifts.
That said, even with great communication and experience, an uneven result can still happen. Don’t panic; it’s not the end of the world! Most lash lifts last a few weeks, and as the client’s natural lashes shed and regrow, the unevenness will even out. Then, the client can go back for their next lift and hopefully achieve a more even result.
