Apple and Samsung Are Gearing up for Another Court Battle

Samsung and Apple haven’t given up on their patent infringement court battle and there is a likely chance they may soon face each other again in court.

In 2011, Apple began litigating against Samsung in patent infringement suits, while Apple and Motorola Mobility were already engaged in a patent war on several fronts.

From that period on, this marked the beginning of a long patent war that has since seen Apple and Samsung fighing in over 19 ongoing cases in nine countries which later expanded to ten by October.

Reports recently revealed by Foss Patents, suggests that two technology gaints still have unresolved issues that may see Apple fight to retain its $400 million that it won in the first trial unless the two companies decide to settle it outside the system.

However, even though Samsung paid Apple $548 million in late 2015, it still believes it can reduce on the remianing sum further according to its legal team which is planning to head back to court.

Courts initially determined Samsung violated Apple patents while building its own smartphone, and, originally, Samsung had been ordered to give Apple the profits from those phones. But the Supreme Court said this thinking was mistaken. Instead, the court ruled that Samsung should only have to pay Apple for the parts of its phone that violated Apple’s patents.

Now Apple faces grave danger since Samsung’s Koh feels they deserve to take back the $400 million they paid to Apple. The two companies now have until Oct. 25 to offer a possible retrial date.
