W3BFLIX, a project being developed under the TON Eco-system and still flying under the radar could be the next big thing to bring Netflix and chill to users within Telegram, expanding the chat app’s eco-system to newer heights.
Noted as a potential project that could blow up soon in the recent Future Giants series by the TON Foundation, W3BFLIX is expected to be the next Web3 solution to Netflix that will empower communities to have a stronger voice in the creative industry through crowdfunding and promotion of entertainment content at a broad scale.
W3BFLIX seeks to empower communities while making use of its strong connections to the entertainment industry. The project also wants to offer exciting live concert experiences to its subscribers who can’t make it to the actual events through the TON network.
Why W3BFLIX is using the TON network
In the interview, the team from W3BFLIX stated that based on their research, TON’s intuitive user interface has enabled them to provide a smooth experience for subscribers given that design is an important aspect when it comes to building an excellent product that is user-friendly. Aside from that, the easy-to-use Web3 apps have enabled them to significantly onboard from Web2.
In the wake of the ever-growing blockchain technologies, “TON has also provided a platform to process millions of transactions per second and accommodate an unlimited number of active users, which will be extremely important as we scale,” said the W3BFLIX team. “Fractional payments are key to our business model as we plan to make our products available to the widest audience worldwide regardless of whether or not they are banked,” they added.
Launched in Russia in 2013 by Nikolai and Pavel Durov who also founded VK, Telegram has become an increasingly popular instant messaging platform across the globe with a reported 700 million monthly active users as of early 2023, and ranked as the third most downloaded messenger app worldwide, following WhatsApp and Snapchat in the same year.
W3BFLIX team goes further to add that: Telegram alone has 900 million monthly active users and is growing rapidly in developing regions, where we aim to target first. In terms of Web3, TON has managed to onboard 45m wallets in the past 3 months. Telegram has been attracting around 13,500 developers to its ecosystem just a few months ago, which promises explosive growth going forward.
Streaming services on Telegram
The quality of streaming on the Telegram platform has been considered excellent, with content resolution and quality maintained at decent speeds depending on your network connection, making it a perfect place to experiment with various projects on the TON network.
Having a robust eco-system that has allowed Blockchain technologies, apps, file sharing and many other features to grow exponentially, it is no wonder that many have dubbed Telegram the new dark web due to its privacy-focused features allowing users to trade and engage in many activities online.
“Telegram already has a live streaming facility that we can use for live events and concerts. It has been used to download films illegally in the past; but when formalized, this approach can be adapted to watching content online on multiple devices. This may be integrated into launching and promoting content with trailers and UGC-created content,” said the team.
W3BFLIX also has ten upcoming impact and commercial projects in EMEA and APAC, including the Shogakukan (Pokemon) backed animation “SupeRich” and Roma official selection film “Houria” (Canal+, Wild Bunch) with RollingStone Italy marketing support and Wes Anderson’s lead actress Lyna Khoudri (“The French Dispatch”).
The project team is also in active talks with its industry contacts and sourcing some great content as well as live concert events as we cater to both international and Hollywood projects alike. One of the Hollywood projects they are involved in is Versus Entertainment and Scott Free’s (Ridley Scott) Ethereum biopic titled “The Infinite Machine,” which is expected to be screened in 2025.
Pricing and launch date
When asked about the pricing and launch date, this is what W3BFLIX had to say:
We’ll offer a tiered subscription service with the basic subscription starting at $2 per month ($1 per month for life, tradable, for the first 100,000 community members). We eventually aim to offer a premium subscription tier at around $5, but this exact price hasn’t been confirmed yet. Ultimately, we want to make our premium services cheaper than even Netflix’s basic subscription and provide affordable pricing to anyone around the world.
At the moment, the launch date for the project isn’t set in stone yet but is expected to launch within six months once development is done and funding is secured.
We’ve projected it will take six months for us to develop and launch once our funding is secured, and at the moment, funding is our main goal. We’re getting strong interest from both traditional entertainment companies and VCs that we’re in discussion with. Our deck is finally completed, and our litepaper is about to be released.
