Arsenal Want to Sign Ever Banega from Sevilla

Arsenal are making plans to sign Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega as Aaron Ramsey’s replacement as the Welsh international is set to leave the Gunners in the summer.

Having worked with the Argentinian star in Spain, manager Unai Emery believes Banega can play a key role for the Gunners.

Arsenal’s interest in Banega further underlines the club’s relaxation of their stance on signing ageing players something that has been iconical during Wenger’s days with the club.

Players like Banega, 30, would not have been considered by previous manager Arsene Wenger, who preferred to sign younger players who have a resale value.

But recent signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sokratis and Stephan Lichtsteiner are all close to or over 30-years-old.

And the Gunners are now less concerned about signing unproven players who could turn a profit in the future, and instead choosing to focus on stars who can deliver instant success.

Arsenal had also been keen on signing the Argentine in the summer window but decided not to pursue him as they felt that they had enough options.

But with the departure of Ramsey that is set to be imminent, Banega offers the kind of precision that they need within the ranks.

Banega was also one of the stand out players for Argentina at the just concluded FIFA World Cup in Russia and Arsenal hope that he can translate that brilliance to the Emirates.
