Two men have been arrested in India for raping a 13-year-old girl who had gone to use the toilet that is in the fields, the two also face counts of murder.
According to the parents, the girl had gone to use the restroom but never returned which raised concerns and going to look for her, they found her lying dead in the plantations.
Two neighbors to the family have since been arrested after the body of the 13-year-old was found in a sugarcane field in northern Uttar Pradesh state, police said on Saturday.
Her father had earlier come out to state that his daughter’s eyes had been gouged out and tongue cut. However, police have refuted these claims stating that post-mortem examination had concluded that she had died from strangulation after being raped – but not that her eyes had been gouged out or that her tongue had been cut.
police spokesman Satendra Kumar said that “There were scratches near the eyes, likely due to the sharp sugarcane leaves where the body was found.”
The attacker inflicted severe injuries to the child’s eyes, in an apparent attempt to stop her from identifying him.
“The inhuman act with a girl has put humanity to shame,” said A senior member of the Opposition Congress Party, Jitin Prasada on the rape and killing of the 13-year-old girl.
This case comes months after a 6-year-old was also abducted and raped outside her home in Madhya Pradesh state. The rate of rape cases in India and the stats are worrying leaders and humanitarian organizations.
There have been many cases of rape across India in different which have resulted in protests being held across the nation. Most notable was the gang-rape case of the 27-year-old Vet that caused a global outcry on what is happening in India in regards to rape.
