Moving to the Mountains? Here Are 5 Tips to Prepare for Colorado Life

One of the most beautiful and popular states in the nation, Colorado continues to attract thousands of new residents each year. Known for its iconic mountain beauty and friendly atmosphere, the state is seen as a great place to work and raise a family.

If you have decided to say goodbye to city living and are making plans to move to Colorado, here are five tips to keep in mind as you prepare for your new way of life.

1. Altitude Requires Adjustments

Since you’ll be living in and around the Rocky Mountains, you will need to take some time to get adjusted to the changes in altitude that come with living in Colorado. Like anybody else who moves to the state, be prepared for the possibility of a few bouts of altitude sickness. This has symptoms similar to the flu but will disappear as your body adjusts to your new surroundings.

2. Housing Can Be Expensive

In Colorado, there is a high demand for housing, but a somewhat low supply of homes for sale. Because of this, you will need to give yourself time to plan and save up. Research which neighborhoods you’d like to live in and the typical housing cost for your desired number of bed/bathrooms.

With this in mind, consider reaching out to a real estate agent. This is especially important if you’ve yet to move into the state, as they can be your boots on the ground. Once you find your dream home, put down an offer quickly. Otherwise, you’re likely to lose out to another home buyer. You will feel so amazing once you secure your mountain home!

3. Weather Changes Quickly

When living in Colorado, be prepared for sudden changes in weather. In fact, it is not unusual to have temperatures in the 70s or 80s one day, only to have snow and freezing temperatures 24 hours later. To deal with this, have an extensive wardrobe of clothing for all seasons, and plan on keeping an extra pair of boots and a jacket in your vehicle just in case.

4. Active Lifestyles Rock

If you are a person who enjoys staying active, you will love living in Colorado. Well-known for having excellent areas for hiking, biking, and running, the state also has numerous parks and golf courses. Thus, no matter what activities you love doing, chances are you’ll have a spot close by that can accommodate you and your family.

5. The Job Market is Strong

Should you move to Colorado and want to find a new job, the employment outlook is very strong across the state. Whether you want a job in a retail store, a restaurant or hotel, or perhaps in a medical facility, each of these sectors is hiring people on a daily basis in Colorado.

Once you move to the mountains, make some new friends, and start your new job, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to make your move to Colorado.
