Is Public Display of Affection Okay in A Relationship?
Time and again there have been different opinions concerning public display of affection (PDA) or privacy in a relationship.
Most women don’t have issues with public display of affection unlike their male counterparts who aren’t comfortable with it.
The big question is; should you keep your forms of affection private compared to being public?
Public display of affection or keeping it under wraps, what is more appropriate in today’s society
Honestly, that answer depends on the couple, and which strategy works best for both of them at the end of the day.
For a number of reasons, some people aren’t comfortable with PDA & others are but, it doesn’t mean they’re both wrong.

An act of displaying physical intimacy in view of others.This may occur in a public street or a restaurant.
Some people would call it showing off your love, in some cultures this is unacceptable as couples are supposed to keep their business to themselves.
This is more evident in African traditions, unlike in Western cultureswhere it’s sociallyacceptable.
What conforms as public display of affection?
PDA is normally done through kissing, touching, hugging, holding hands, hanging out alone especially in public place with people around.
Social media has also influenced and changed the aspect of public affection and how people view it today.
People share public intimate posts about their partners, through photos, status updates and so on. Doesn’t this count as PDA?
Why the need for public affection by some, let’s find out why?
Proof of love
This is a common thought among newly fond lovers, they want to show everyone else that they are in love.
It’s a justification to them that they have found the most appropriate partner to be with and are happy.
Protecting your territory
Oh yes, the boy is mine! kind of attitude is expressed here, a feeling of victory for winning his or her heart.
This happens a lot where one has worked hard to win one’s affection & acts as a notice to others to back off.
Some people do it to seek attention from others probably to cause jealousy or just to show off in public.
They enjoy the attention of having others talking about it especially those in professions such as acting or music industry.
Why others prefer to keep it behind closed doors
Despite the reasons for public affection whether positive or negative, others prefer privacy because;
It’s their business
Some couples don’t like the idea of publically displaying their affection, and find it not comforting around other people.
This form of approach works best for some couples who feel their relationship matters should be private.
One of the partners could be cheating or uncertain about the direction of the relationship and doesn’t feel comfortable.
So, they prefer to keep it private to avoid getting caught or acquire enough time to sort things out eventually.
Privacy is more comforting
Most couples have the best time when they are alone without the fear of public attention getting in their way.
They feel safe from the judgmental eyes of the public rather than having to face the worry of whose watching.
With that said, the matter of PDA and privacy in relationships varies between couples & how some societies view it.
In whatever manner a couple decides to display their affection should be up to them but they should also consider how, where and what they do.
