Many have watched the movie “The Exorcist”, including some of the parts that followed in the franchise. They were great movies and if you are like me, then you love horrors or “scary movies” as they call them since they get the blood boiling.
“The Exorcist” has been turned into a TV series airing on Fox every Friday, but you wonder, is it up to par? The answer is a lukewarm yes, for now.
The show is directed by Rupert Wyatt (Remember him, from The Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and stars a few familiar names such as Ben Daniels from House of Cards as Father Marcus (psst, he is awesome!), Alan Ruck, Alfonso Herreira from Sense8 as the acclaimed Father Tomas and not forgetting Geena Davis as the mother Angela Rance.
The 1hour long pilot episode dragged a little in the first minutes as Fox was trying to build a story, but there were a few pointers it was aiming to introduce the darkness right away such as the movies general darkness even during day and Father Tomas’ nightmare of Father Marcus’ exorcism in Mexico.
Geena pulls off her role so perfectly as a devout Christian who always comes to Father Tomas’ church, she’s a believer and always writes him letters as well as donates to him. She one day comes to him believing that her house is haunted and Father Tomas calls it a bluff, what they both find out later though is a work of art due to the built up suspense, thrill and surprises.
From the supposedly mentally degenerating husband with terrible memory loss, a daughter who quit school, got back home and never leaves her room and a sports active social but lonely within younger sister and a mother who claims she hears voices and things moving in the walls. This is the show to watch that will probably keep you glued for the next few weeks.
You will love Father Marcus, he is like the ninja warrior of exorcisms with a few issues and barbaric ways to achieve his goals.
Try out “The Exorcist” and I hope you will like it. With so many knock-offs from mainstream movies today, such as Lethal Weapon which is struggling, not many get me this interested.
Airs every Friday at 9 p.m on Fox.
